Jihlava Czech Republic

Jihlava is a small city between Brno and Prague. It is one hour and half travel by bus to Prague, and one hour to Brno. It is the city where my In-laws, husband and I are all residing. It is very peaceful place; they said there is much better air here than Prague and Brno, also because we don’t have many cars, and other vehicle that is producing air pollution. We don’t have that many factories that blowing bad air.

There are many things I like about this city, and I will be happy to share.

Let’s start the story from the time we moved to our new place. Since we moved to our new home, I finally had the opportunity to see the sunset right from our balcony.

The sunset.

Here is a tree which is more than a hundred years old, and still looks fabulous and huge. It won the title of “Tree of 2003”. I cannot actually make better photo because car is everywhere. Maybe next time, I can make a better one; by that time I hope they already have leaves on it.

Next time, I'll try with leaves.

As you can see in the photo, the tree is located somewhere close to one building. It is actually the church, but as unprofessional photographer I took it badly.

I don’t know what exactly what is this one, but it seems it has history on its own.

I don't exactly know what is it. Just interesting.

In city of Jihlava we also have this called “Catacombs” or in Czech called “Katakomby”. German used that during World War 2, and also for storing food and beers. These Catacombs are still open for all people who wanted to see what is inside. There is still old stuff they used more than years ago; but even though it is open to everyone, some spots are still not allowed for people to see. I actually been there last year, and it was nice, and scary too. Some people say that there is ghost showing up down there, but when my husband and I went there, I don’t see any. So it’s probably just rumors, or maybe it happened but just from time to time. There is that special spot which is extremely dark, and as I remembered when the tourist guide asked one teenager to stand in front and behind him is the wall, tourist guide opened his flashlight in few minutes, then turned it off and when the teenager left where he stands, it has his shadow left right through the wall. Which is kind of scary, and I was absolutely shocked.

Inside the Catacombs were a little tight, and if you are tall then you’ll have a little problem passing through from one place to another.

If you’ll be visiting the city of Jihlava, you’ll notice that there are many long high walls everywhere. They were using that to defend the city from all conquerors. It became useful, and they cannot be defeated, as my husband told me, because they really have high walls here. So from the top of the wall, I took this photo, and as you can see there is nothing but trees. Down there was a huge park of the city, and next to that was Zoo.

Here in Jihlava, we don’t have tram or subway. As I said, it is just a small city, so we are using just “Trolley Bus”. It’s convenient, and it’s really not a problem without tram and subway, because trolley Bus station are everywhere, and every 5-10 minutes they are leaving, but after midnight they usually going after 30 minutes.

We don’t have often traffic in our city and if so, then that only means accident happened somewhere along the road, which mostly didn’t last for long. You’ll also observe that every weekend, and holiday; the road and streets are usually empty. My husband called it the “Dead City”.

You’ll probably think that I am writing just something good about city of Jihlava. Of course not, we also have bad issues here. It’s mostly “Vandalism”. There are just people who happened to not have anything to do with their lives, and just ruins the beauty of the city. Mostly teenagers are doing that, as my husband told me. They usually using spray paint, and spray wherever they want.

There are many things I like about our city, and I know that I have a hard time to make it more precise and understandable for the readers, so I just hope you all understand how I meant.
