Seven Biggest Dating Mistakes That You Should Avoid

Although falling in love comes naturally, most people have to put some effort into dating in order for a relationship to flourish. If you are having a difficult time sustaining meaningful romantic relationships you may be some common dating mistakes. Most people are unaware that they are making mistakes that are ruining any chance of a long-term relationship. Here are seven of the biggest dating mistakes that people make.

1) Revealing Too Much Information

Dating gives two people the chance to get to know each other better but if you decide to share too many intimate details about your life too quickly it can make your date feel uncomfortable. It is important for couples to be honest with one another but this does not mean that you have to reveal all of your deep, dark secrets in the first month of dating. If you share too much information too soon you may just scare away your love interest.

 2) Moving Too Quickly

Like most people, you probably spend quite a bit of time thinking about your future. You may fantasize about getting married, buying a house and having children. Even though it is perfectly fine to think about your future, it is never a good idea to reveal these thoughts on the first few dates. Do not make the mistake of talking about your dreams of marriage and kids instead of simply getting to know more about your dates likes and dislikes. This puts far too much pressure on your date and it will not take long before he or she stops returning your phone calls. There is no need to rush things; after all, there will be plenty of time for you to share your dreams of the future with your partner once the two of you get to know each other better.

In some cases, having sex too quickly can also ruin a good thing. It may be tempting to hop into bed with someone you find attractive, but it is better to let the sexual tension build up over the weeks or months while the two of you develop a strong emotional connection. Deciding to wait before becoming intimate is a great way to earn the respect of your partner.

3) Asking Too Many Questions

You may be tempted to ask your date all kinds of questions about their life but a first date is not a job interview. Asking a long list of questions is a quick way to make a person feel uncomfortable. You should not ask your date about their past relationships or drill them about their plans for the future. You should do your best to make your date feel relaxed and comfortable so they look forward to spending more time with you in the future.

4) Acting Phony

Most people do their best to make a good impression when they start dating somebody new but it is never a good idea to exaggerate your accomplishments. It may be tempting to embellish the truth to make yourself look important but if your date turns into a long-term relationship, he or she will eventually find out the truth. It is always better to be yourself and make an honest connection with the person you are interested in.

 5) Dressing Inappropriately

There is nothing more embarrassing then showing up for a date and realizing that you are not dressed properly for the occasion. If a date has a surprise planned then you should ask them if you should wear casual or formal attire. If your date refuses to reveal secret plans then you should consider dressing formally and bringing along a casual outfit in case you need it. This way you will be ready for dinner at a fine restaurant, a romantic picnic on the beach or anything else your date has planned for you.

6) Rude Behavior

If you have trouble getting a second date then you should consider whether you have been behaving politely on first dates. You should always treat your date with respect and do your best to make him or her feel special. If you spend too much time talking about yourself, complaining about your problems or texting your friends it is only natural for your date to feel offended and lose interest.

 7) Ignoring Red Flags

Ignoring signs of abusive behavior is one of the biggest dating mistakes a person can make. When you fall head over heels in love, it is easy to miss signs that the relationship is headed for trouble. You should be cautious if someone who you are dating repeatedly puts down his or her ex, calls you names, smashes things when they become angry or tries to control any aspect of the relationship. It may be difficult to end a new relationship that seems promising but verbal, psychological and physical abuse worsen over time so it is much better to break off contact in the early stages of the romance rather than endure months or years of turmoil.
